The U.S. Conference on AIDS (USCA 2015), sponsored by the National Minority AIDS Council,is taking place this week, September 10-13, in Washington, D.C. The largest U.S. conference focused on the community-based response to HIV/AIDS, USCA brings together leaders of community organizations, care providers, public health workers, advocates, government policymakers, and people living with HIV.

Topics highlighted at this year's meeting include expanding awareness of and access to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), implementing the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, improving outcomes along the HIV continuum of care, fighting HIV-related stigma, and harm reduction. USCA focuses largely on populations heavily affected by HIV/AIDS including youth, people of color, gay and bi men, and transgender women.

Notable speakers this year will include Rep. Nancy Pelosi (recipient of the Elizabeth Taylor Legacy Award), Rep. Maxine Waters, Anthony Fauci (director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases), Eugene McCray (director of the CDC's Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention), "Berlin Patient" Timothy Ray Brown (the first person known to be cured of HIV), and veteran AIDS activist Peter Staley (an early member of ACT UP/New York).
